Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

Hazardous Materials Drop Off

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers some leftover household products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste. Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides can contain hazardous ingredients and require special care when you dispose of them.

Many of these products may be labeled with the words: Caution, Warning, Toxic, Flammable, Corrosive, Reactive, Hazardous or Danger. For safe management of HHW, please refer to the EPA’s website: https://www.epa.gov/hw/household-hazardous-waste-hhw

Do not place HHW products in the garbage or pour them down the drain. When HHW is disposed of improperly, sanitation workers can be injured, explosions can occur due to chemical reactions and waterbodies can become contaminated.

Yamhill County Solid Waste holds free HHW Collection Events annually, in Newberg and McMinnville, open to all Yamhill County households. Registration is required for the HHW events- this is to maintain traffic flow as wait times in the past have been over an hour. Some HHW items can be recycled year-round at locations listed at this link: https://www.yamhillcounty.gov/377/Local-HHW-Recycling-Spots

These collection events are for Household Hazardous Waste only; waste may not be from a business, school, farm, church, non-profit or government agency. Please refer to the Business Hazardous Waste section for more information

If you would like to be placed on an email list to be notified of when the registration for the HHW events is open and/or about other recycling events in Yamhill County, please email our Solid Waste Department with your preferred email to be contacted at.
